The Town of Carcassonne

Carcassonne, a small town in southern France nears the Spanish border, are two very different – a wall of the old town and modern city below. The higher the historic city of Carcassonne is a hugely impressive fortress on a hill. It has a double ring of walls with 53 towers, huge difference. It’s a spectacular view, especially at night when illuminated. The walled fortress city elapsed since the days of Napoleon fell because the French government decided to be demolished in 1849. Fortunately, the shock that caused the decree created a campaign to preserve the fort as a great historical monument. The restoration that followed was not good, and has been criticized by some, but the work of French architect Viollet-le-Duc in the restoration of this impressive monument is believed to be the work of a genius.
